West Chester, Pa (June 25, 2026) – The Care Center Foundation (CCF), a nonprofit childcare provider in West Chester, is making infrastructure upgrades to enhance safety and security thanks to funding secured by State Senator Carolyn Comitta.
The organization was recently awarded $50,000 in state grant funding to support important capital projects at its historic location in the southeast corner of the borough’s downtown.
The funding will allow the organization to repair sidewalks damaged by tree root lift, replace a failing roof, and upgrade the security and safety systems that protect the children and staff.
“The Care Center Foundation has been a part of the fabric of West Chester for over 40 years and has thrived throughout that time because of an extremely generous and supportive community. Alone, we can do some things, but together, we can accomplish much more. This attitude has been a keystone of what has made the Care Center Foundation resilient, and what makes each one of the families it serves resilient,” said Dr. Wendy Wallace, Board President.
Comitta, a former teacher who serves on the Senate Aging and Youth Committee and the Senate Education Committee, said investments in affordable, high-quality childcare providers are crucial as the industry faces a workforce shortage and parents and families continue to grapple with rising inflationary costs.
“Our childcare professionals and providers are key partners in community and economic development. Their work helps ensure young children get a strong start to learning and gives parents the opportunity to return to the workforce, advance their careers, or pursue new opportunities,” Comitta said. “As a mother and grandmother, I know just how important accessible, reliable childcare is for Pennsylvania families from all walks of life. I want to thank CCF and its staff, supporters, and volunteers for their ongoing dedication to children and families in West Chester.”
Founded in 1982, CCF is a mission-driven nonprofit childcare provider dedicated to supporting West Chester’s most vulnerable families by providing safe, affordable, and high-quality early childhood education and serving as a hub of resources and support. It operates with eight trained staff members under Stephanie Brancato, who provide trauma-informed, nurturing care to help young people grow in a safe, healthy learning environment. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided daily, and if needed, diapers. Located on South Matlack Street, CCF is walkable for many families.
With Comitta’s support, the funding was secured through a Community and Economic Assistance Program Grant administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
Wallace said the organization plans to use West Chester- and Chester County-based contractors to complete the work.
“We are so grateful to Senator Comitta and her staff for their support and dedication not only to our organization, but to all of us in West Chester who are dedicated to creating a community that benefits everyone,” she added.
